Overview

The Navitas 20A 30mA Type A Bidirectional RCBO is designed to provide combined protection against overload currents, short circuit currents and residual earth fault currents within a single protective device. Built in a compact one module format, it helps maximise available board space while still providing individual circuit protection.

Unlike traditional single pole RCBOs, this device uses switched neutral operation, disconnecting both line and neutral conductors during operation. This provides an improved condition after disconnection and supports safer inspection, maintenance and fault finding.

The bidirectional design allows the device to operate correctly regardless of supply orientation, making it suitable for modern installations where current flow direction may need to be considered. This is increasingly important as electrical systems evolve beyond simple one way supply arrangements.

Type A residual current protection is included as standard, allowing the device to detect both alternating residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents generated by modern electronic equipment. This makes it suitable for installations using LED lighting, electronic drivers, smart controls, power supplies and connected technologies.

Available in both B Curve and C Curve variants, the 20A Bidirectional RCBO gives installers flexibility when selecting protection for the circuit. B Curve is typically selected for immersion heaters, water heating systems and dedicated appliance circuits, while C Curve may be selected where higher inrush currents are expected.

Every Navitas Bidirectional RCBO is individually tested before leaving the factory and undergoes a comprehensive 37 point quality control inspection process. Combined with independent certification by TÜV Rheinland Germany, this helps provide consistent performance and dependable operation throughout the life of the installation.

Applications

The 20A Bidirectional RCBO is commonly specified for dedicated circuits supplying fixed loads where individual protection, switched neutral operation and bidirectional functionality are required. Its compact one module format makes it particularly useful where consumer unit space is limited.

Typical applications include:

• Immersion heater circuits

• Water heating systems

• Dedicated appliance supplies

• Utility room installations

• Radial power circuits

• Smart home installations

• Consumer unit upgrades

• New build electrical installations

For conventional immersion heater and dedicated appliance circuits, the B Curve variant is typically selected. Where higher inrush currents may be present from electronic controls, inverters, motors or specialist equipment, the C Curve variant may be more appropriate.

Why Choose Navitas

Why Navitas RCBOs

Modern installations place greater demands on circuit protection than ever before. Smart controls, LED lighting, electronic loads, EV chargers, solar PV, battery storage and heat pump technology have changed the way electricians need to think about protection devices.

The Navitas Bidirectional RCBO range has been developed for that shift. By combining bidirectional operation, switched neutral functionality and Type A residual current protection in a compact one module format, it gives installers a flexible solution for modern consumer units and distribution boards.

Every device is individually tested before leaving the factory and undergoes a comprehensive 37 point quality control inspection process. This is supported by independent certification from TÜV Rheinland Germany, helping to ensure consistent performance from one device to the next.

The result is a protection device designed around the reality of modern installation work. Easier to specify, easier to install and built to perform when it matters most.
